1. The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu

Shen Yuan covering Binghe with a fan
Read Scum Villain's Self SAving System on Seven Seas

Shen Yuan is a college student who gets sucked into his least favorite novel, Proud Immortal Demon Way. But it gets worse: he becomes the villain, Shen Qingqiu, who's basically the worst master ever to poor Luo Binghe, the hero.

Binghe's destined to have a harem of, like, a gazillion wives. But here's where things get juicy: Shen Qingqiu starts to realize that Luo Binghe doesn't actually want any of that.

He doesn't want a harem filled with beauties; he wants his Shizun!

Review

Now, fair warning: this dynamic might not be everyone's cup of tea. Luo Binghe is Shen Yua's disciple, and he absolutely worships him. Keep in mind that Binghe is a minor in most of the novel, so there's nothing explicit going on.

Shen Yuan has always admired Luo Binghe, even with the original novel. He respects Binghe's potential and wants him to succeed, to claim all the fame, power, and, yes, even that massive harem he's destined for.

He's not your typical stoic cultivator protagonist – he's flawed, relatable, and utterly hilarious!

2. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (Mo Dao Zu Shi) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu

Wei Wuxian offering Lan Wangji
Read Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation on Seven Seas

Wei Wuxian was a hated man when he was alive, and he's been dead now for 13 years. But hold onto your hats because he's back! Through a ritual sacrifice, Wei Wuxian's spirit possesses a new body, ready to unleash some chaos and maybe get a little revenge.

Wei Wuxian finds himself entangled with Lan Wangji, a former acquaintance with whom he didn't exactly have the best relationship in his past life.

Review

The world-building in Mo Dao Zu Shi is wild and wonderful! We're talking flying swords, demonic statues, sassy donkeys (yes, you read that right), and a magical bag with a mind of its own.

Is it always perfectly explained? Not necessarily. But does it matter? Absolutely not! The world-building is just a backdrop for the real stars of the show: the characters.

Mo Dao Zu Shi is the recipe for the perfect slow-burn romance. The way they gradually open up to each other, the subtle romance, the playful banters - there's just something about it that hits the right fangirl feels!

You can really tell that this book was a labor of love, and I'm so grateful for the dedication that went into it.

So, if you're ready to embark on a magical adventure filled with humor, heart, and craziness, Mo Dao Zu Shi is the perfect escape!

3. Heaven Official's Blessing (Tiān Guān Cì Fú) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu

Read Heaven Official's Blessing on Seven Seas

Once upon a time, Xie Lian was the beloved Crown Prince of Xianle, basically the golden boy everyone adored. He even ascended to godhood at a young age! But fate had other plans, and he was banished back to the mortal realm.

Years later, he ascended again, only to be kicked back down almost immediately. Talk about bad luck!

Fast forward 800 years, and Xie Lian ascends for the third time, but now he's the laughingstock of the heavens. Poor guy! But on his first mission back in the celestial realm, he crosses paths with a mysterious and powerful ghost king. Little does he know this ghost king has been looking for him for 800 years.

Review

By far, I believe this is MXTX's best work. There are just so many layers between the story and the character. The best part? It doesn't solely focus on the romance!

TGCF is a character-driven novel, and these flashbacks give us a deep dive into the characters' past traumas and experiences.

So, while they might be painful to read at times, these flashbacks are crucial to appreciating the full scope of TGCF. MXTX is a masterclass in character development, and they'll leave you with a deeper understanding and appreciation for this incredible story!

4. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun) by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat

Mo Ran and Chu Wanning clashing swords
Read The Husky and His White Cat Shizun on Seven Seas

Mo Ran, our adorable "dumb husky" protagonist, thinks his master, Chu Wanning, is a total cat – aloof, graceful, and a bit prickly. He'd much rather hang out with his fellow "dog" disciple, the charming and easygoing Shi Mei. But fate has other plans...

After dying and being reborn twice, Mo Ran realizes that the one he keeps coming back to is none other than Chu Wanning, the very "cat" he couldn't stand at first.

Review

Meatbun's writing is simply exquisite. Her vivid descriptions transport you to another world, and the intricate cultivation system is both fascinating and accessible.

But it's the emotional depth of the relationships and the slow-burn romance that truly sets this novel apart. Seriously, the sexual tension had me screaming internally!

Seeing Moran transform from a bitter, resentful soul to someone who can love and redeem is incredible. And Chu Wanning? Amazing how his hard facade slowly crumbles to reveal his soft spot!

And the angst? Prepare to have your heart ripped out, stomped on, and then lovingly pieced back together. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, Meatbun throws a curveball that'll knock the wind right out of you!

5. Remnants of Filth (Yu Wu) by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat

Gu Mang kneels while Mo Xi stands
Read Remnants of Filth on Seven Seas

Traitorous general Gu Mang returns to his homeland, facing a nation that wants him dead. And the one who supposedly hates him most? His former best friend, the icy Young Master Mo.

Rumors fly that Young Master Mo has prepared a year's worth of torture for Gu Mang, but these rumors are quickly squashed.

So, what's the real story? Well, the truth is even more scandalous than the rumors suggest.

Young Master Mo, whose real name is Mo Xi, has a reputation as the most abstinent commander in the empire. But here's the twist: he and Gu Mang have a secret past: they slept together before.

Review

Meatbun masterfully explores the themes of power, privilege, and oppression, giving a voice to the voiceless and challenging our assumptions about right and wrong.

Gu Mang, the "traitorous" general, is far more complex than anyone realizes, and Mo Xi, his former best friend and lover, refuses to accept the simple narrative. You'll witness both sides of the war, delving into the hearts and minds of characters from every walk of life.

6. Ballad of Sword and Wine (Qiang Jin Jiu) by Tan Jiuqing

Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye toasting a drink
Read Ballad of Sword and Wine on Seven Seas

Shen Zechuan, a fallen prince with a sharp mind and a steel resolve, finds himself imprisoned in the heart of enemy territory. Xiao Chiye, a cunning military commander with a hidden yearning for freedom, arrives as a political pawn.

These two sworn enemies ignite a forbidden passion that defies all odds, their love story unfolding against a backdrop of war and betrayal.

As Shen Zechuan fights to reclaim his throne, Xiao Chiye grapples with his loyalties, and together, they forge an alliance that will change the fate of their kingdoms.

Review

The novel is divided into three major arcs, each packed with unforgettable moments and quotes that will stay with you long after you finish reading.

The third part of the novel takes a turn into the world of politics, introducing multiple side plots that might feel a bit overwhelming at first. But trust me, it's all part of the intricate tapestry that Tan Jiuqing is weaving!

Ballad of Sword and WIne is not for the faint of heart. But if you're ready to be swept away by a captivating tale of love, loss, and redemption, this novel is worth adding to your list!
