Konnichiwa, fellow otaku! It's your girl Liz here, ready to dish out some juicy anime gossip! Today, we're talking about everyone's favorite hiatus-prone series - Hunter x Hunter! Yatta! Let's dive right in and see what's cooking in Togashi-sensei's kitchen!
Oh boy, where do we even start with this one? Hunter x Hunter's hiatus history is longer than Leorio's medical textbooks! Our poor mangaka, Togashi-sensei, has been battling health issues for years. It's like he's stuck in his own real-life Greed Island arc, trying to beat the game of chronic back pain. Ganbare, Togashi-sensei!
The manga started way back in 1998 (I wasn't even born yet, can you believe it?), but it's only reached about 400 chapters. Meanwhile, One Piece is out there flexing with over 1000 chapters. Talk about a slow burn, ne?

Here's the tea: Togashi-sensei recently dropped a bomb on Twitter (or X, or whatever we're calling it these days). He's finished chapters 401, 402, and 403! Sugoi! But hold your horses because we still don't know when they'll actually be released. It's like waiting for Hisoka to show up - you know it's gonna happen, but the suspense is killing you!
The good news is that Volume 38 is set to hit the shelves on September 4, 2024. It's been almost two years since the last volume, so I'm more excited than Gon finding a new bug species!

Now, here's where things get tricky. The anime adaptation by Madhouse was a total banger, covering 148 episodes across six seasons. But it's been radio silence since 2014. That's a decade, people! I've gone through my entire awkward phase and come out the other side in that time!
The problem is, there's just not enough manga material for a new season. The anime covered seven out of nine manga arcs, leaving us with the Dark Continent Expedition and Succession Contest arcs. But the Dark Continent arc is shorter than Feitan's temper, so we'd need more content to fill a whole season.

Of course, that hasn't stopped us fans from dreaming! Some theories floating around include:
- A movie adaptation of the Dark Continent arc (Imagine the budget for that Beast Hunter vs. Chimera Ant showdown!)
- A spin-off series focused on Kurapika's adventures (Yes, please, I need more of my favorite chain-wielding avenger!)
- Togashi-sensei is secretly working on a massive backlog of chapters (A girl can dream, right?)
The Future of Hunter x Hunter: What's Next?
Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it like a mitarashi dango - the future of Hunter x Hunter is as uncertain as Ging's parenting skills. But that doesn't mean we should lose hope! Togashi-sensei has said he wants to give the series the perfect ending, so we know he's still passionate about it.
In the meantime, we can always rewatch the anime, reread the manga, and come up with increasingly wild fan theories. Who knows, maybe by the time the next chapter comes out, I'll have mastered Nen and can just project the story directly into my brain!
So there you have it, my fellow Hunter x Hunter fanatics! The road ahead might be bumpy, but we're in this together. Remember, a true Hunter never gives up! Mata ne, and may the aura of Nen be with you!
