Esdeath was a high-ranking General of the Empire. She was deeply in love and obsessed with Tatsumi. Esdeath spent most of her childhood in the North with her tribe, the Partas Clan. After her tribe was destroyed, she joined the Empire's military and quickly rose through the ranks. Esdeath was ordered to subjugate various rebellions, including the Ban Tribe, which she brutally crushed. She later formed the group "Jaegers" to hunt down the members of Night Raid.

Esdeath was a manipulative and barbarous sadist who lacked empathy for people she deemed weak. She enjoyed putting her enemies through great pain and had no qualms about killing innocent people. However, Esdeath also possessed great charisma and inspired loyalty in her subordinates.

Physically, Esdeath was a tall, beautiful and slender young woman with long, light blue hair and blue eyes. She wore a General's uniform with a blue scarf and high-heeled boots. As a child, Esdeath wore a black hairband with her clan's symbol.

Esdeath was an exceptionally powerful fighter, wielding a variety of abilities:

• Wielded the powerful Teigu "Demon's Extract" which allowed her to manipulate ice
• Could create icicles, freeze people to death, and even freeze entire lakes
• Developed several powerful trump card techniques, including the ability to freeze time and space itself

Esdeath also possessed immense physical strength, agility, and durability. She was considered the strongest soldier in the Empire's army and could easily overpower large groups of enemies, including Teigu users.
