Get ready to squee, flail, and maybe even mourn the fact fictional men don't exist as we uncover the top reasons why Hua Cheng is the ultimate Xie Lian simp!

Hua Cheng's unwavering devotion led him to search for his beloved Dianxia for over 800 YEARS. His love knows no bounds to the point he filled a cave with THOUSANDS of Xie Lian statues. If that's not true love, I don't know what is!

Here are a few reasons (and more!) as to why Hua Cheng (aka San Lang) is the Biggest Xie Lian Simp!

Case #1: Hua Cheng Looked for Xie Lian for 800 years

Imagine your first reencounter being your wedding

Get yourself a man who is willing to go through literal hell and back while waiting 800 years for you because that's what San Lang did!

Xie Lian is San Lang's literal reason for living. Back when San Lang was a child, he had planned to jump off a high building to end his life. Fortunately, Xie Lian saved him. So when Xie Lian discovered the reason why Hua Cheng jumped off, he told him:

"If you don't know how to live anymore, then live for me."

San Lang's life has never been the same since then.

Case #2: Hua Cheng Tattoed Xie Lian's Name on his Arm

Xie Lian and the rest of us wondering what exactly Hua Cheng's tattoo means

Thank goodness for San Lang's crappy handwriting. Otherwise, his cover would've been blown early on!

I mean, this is a typical couple thing to do, getting each other's name tattooed. But San Lang wasn't even Xie Lian's anything!

Now, as we all know, San Lang is and will forever be Gege's most devoted follower. But Xie Lian didn't even remember him until 800 years later.

Still, he made sure to tattoo his name on his arm. Now that's love!

Case #3: Hua Cheng Tying a Red String on His and Xie Lian's Fingers

San Lang, you aren't slick! I mean, the red string of fate?

For those who aren't aware, in Chinese mythology, a red string is believed to be tied to the ankles of two fated partners. In San Lang's case, he uses the finger, and we have Xie Lian to thank.

Back when San Lang was a young soldier, Xie Lian gave him a lock of his hair. This was to protect him while Xie Lian was under the influence of love potion-like flowers.

Later, San Lang replaced the hair with a red string. He also tied the other end to Xie Lian's finger, which did not go past Mu Qing and Feng Xin's notice!

Case #4: Hua Cheng gave Xie Lian his ashes

Credits to Starember for the beautiful art for an equally beautiful moment!

I admit that when I first saw Hua Cheng give Xie Lian a ring, I thought, "Aww, he's proposing!"

It wasn't until later on in the book that we all realized Hua Cheng had given Xie Lian his ashes. You read that right. HIS ASHES.

And that's a huge deal because that is San Lang's literal lifeline, and he's trusting Xie Lian with it!

If the ring somehow gets destroyed, he, too, will cease to exist. Giving Xie Lian a ring made out of his ashes is him quite literally leaving his life in Xie Lian's hands!

Case #5: Hua Cheng Fought 33 Heavenly Officials to Defend Xie Lian's Honor

What would you do if your dearest husband was kicked out and humiliated by 33 Heavenly officials? You beat their butts, of course!

San Lang climbed up to heaven to confront the gods who kicked out Xie Lian from the spiritual mountain. If he wins, he gives them his ashes. Why is this important? Well, without San Lang's ashes, he would literally not exist.

The 33 gods agreed and got their butts handed to them. San Lang's condition? They step down.

Like the idiots they are, they ignored San Lang's condition. So he took it upon himself to burn ALL of their temples. And every time a follower builds another one, he burns them down.

Without temples and followers, these gods eventually faded away. A big W for Hua Cheng!

Case #6: Hua Cheng built 10,000 statues of Xie Lian

Let's be honest - waiting for 800 years for your lover is boring. Other people would give up or cheat on their lovers.

As for San Lang? He decided to build 10,000 statues in honor of Xie Lian.

Everyone in the heavenly realm was under the impression that the "Cave of Ten Thousand Gods" consisted of multiple gods. It wasn't until Xie Lian entered the cave that he discovered they were all statues of one god: him!

Case #7: Hua Cheng Offered 3,000 Blessed Lanterns for Xie Lian TWICE

This chapter was absolutely satisfying to read.

Now we all know how Xie Lian's reputation is trashier than the trash he's collected. So, no one had expected him to win the unofficial lantern competition by a landslide! And 3000 lanterns at that!

By no means are lanterns cheap, so they must've cost San Lang a fortune (not that it would cause a dent in his treasury)

Do you know what makes these lanterns even more special? These are the same number of lanterns present when he met Xie Lian as a ghost fire!

Case #8: Hua Cheng Rejected Godhood to Find Xie Lian

Did you know E'ming was the reason why San Lang ascended to godhood?

Back in Mount Tonglu, San Lang had taken in a group of lost mortals. To save them from other ghosts, he gouged his eye out, and then E'ming was born.

This was enough reason for San Lang to ascend to godhood. But San Lang did not want to be a god. He wanted to find his god, Xie Lian.

So, like a true romantic, he jumped back down to the mortal realm to find his beloved.

Case #9: Hua Cheng Dies for Xie Lian

It sounds dramatic, but it happened. Not once, but twice.

San Lang dies the second time by absorbing the malicious spirits to protect Xie Lian. His death in Book 5? He gives Xie Lian his remaining spiritual energy.

This part of the novel was honestly romantic, but I just cannot! You HAVE to read it to experience the final parts of the novel instead.
