Koneko Toujou is one of the main female protagonists of the light novel and anime series High School DxD. She is a rare Nekoshou - a powerful Nekomata species.

Koneko starts as a first-year student at Kuoh Academy and a member of the Occult Research Club, serving as Rias Gremory's Rook. She is Kuroka's younger sister and a former member of the Vali Team.

After coming to terms with her identity and past trauma and rekindling her bond with Kuroka, Koneko embraces her birth name, Shirone Toujou. By the end of the first light novel, she is also one of Issei Hyoudou's many fiancées.

Koneko joined Rias' peerage after a traumatic childhood incident in which she witnessed her sister apparently killing their devil master. Despite her cute appearance, she is an immensely powerful fighter, displaying extreme strength and defense befitting the Rook position.

Personality & Appearance

Initially, Koneko has a cold, withdrawn personality, rarely showing emotion due to the trauma of her past. She was the only one who initially didn't get along with Issei, insulting his pervertedness despite respecting his tenacity.

But after overcoming her fear with Issei's help, Koneko does a complete 180. She becomes aggressive yet bashful when expressing her romantic feelings, frequently ending sentences with "nya." She embraces being a nekomata and gets jealous when others get close to Issei.

Despite acting distant, Koneko deeply cares for her comrades, loaning her strength whenever they are in danger. She has a complex insecurity about her petite size and small stature. For instance, she hates being called names like "shrimp."

Koneko's most distinctive features are her small build, hazel eyes, and white hair styled with long bangs and black cat-shaped hair clips. In her true nekomata form, she grows white cat ears and tails.

When first introduced, Koneko wears the standard Kuoh Academy uniform without the cape. But in battle, she dons black weighted gloves with pink paw prints. Koneko's "Shirone Mode" ability ages her to a more mature appearance, similar to Kuroka.

Powers & Abilities

Despite her size, Koneko is incredibly powerful as one of Rias's elite Rooks. She has extreme abilities, including the following.

• Strength: Enough to easily lift larger people and objects. Koneko can punch through solid metal.
• Defense: Most physical strikes bounce off Koneko's enhanced durability.
• Speed: She is deceptively fast for a Rook, catching opponents off guard.

As a Nekoshou, Koneko also wields the power of Senjutsu - the supernatural ability to control and manifest one's life energy (ki). This grants her several powerful skills:

• Senjutsu Attacks: Koneko can enhance her strikes with concentrated ki blasts.
• Senjutsu Healing: Using ki, she can heal physical, mental, and stamina damage in others.
• Kasha: Summons large purification wheels made of sacred white flames.
• Presence Concealment: Koneko can fully suppress her presence and aura.

Her most devastating Senjutsu ability is creating a powerful "Touki" aura around her body that vastly increases all her offensive and defensive capabilities.

Other abilities include transforming between her human and nekomata forms and utilizing Youjutsu techniques passed down from Kuroka. She also has masterful hand-to-hand combat skills combined with her natural strength.

She can access a temporary "Shirone Mode" to age herself and unleash the full powers of an adult nekomata. This further enhances her strength and speed and grants advanced Senjutsu or Youjutsu abilities.
