What a way to end season 2. That was hands down one of the most terrible cliffhangers. Probably as bad as Code Geass.
For those who haven't read Dawn of the Dragon, I suggest you skip this blog. This is 1000 words worth of spoilers, after all.
But if you have read Dawn of the Dragon or don't care about being spoiled, welcome aboard! Today, we'll be breaking down what happened in the past two seasons and what we look forward to in season 3!
The Story So Far
Living the high life as heir to Yooshin corporation, Taehyuk's world is turned upside down when the family's guardian dragon, Hyo-un, ditches them for his mate! Taehyuk bravely steps up to meet the dragon to save his sister from a forced engagement.
But Hyo-un isn't thrilled. He's been asleep for ages and doesn't even remember what his mate looks like. Taehyuk's arrival is met with skepticism... until a fever hits Hyo-un, causing him to deliriously mistake Taehyuk for his long-lost love.
Taehyuk, seeing the relief this brings Hyo-un, decides to play along as the fake mate. Not just to save his family's fortune but because he's totally smitten with the dragon!
As they spend time together, Hyo-un falls for the "real" Taehyuk. But guilt-ridden Taehyuk confesses the truth, breaking Hyo-un's heart and getting himself kicked out.
However, Hyo-un's health takes a bad turn without Taehyuk around. Delirious once again, he kidnaps Taehyuk back to his mansion, and love-struck Taehyuk is happy to comply. But there's a twist - Taehyuk's presence isn't helping anymore!
Desperate, Taehyuk seeks help from other spirits, leading him to a mysterious mountain where another dragon spirit is said to dwell. But then he falls, gets brutally injured, and the season ends.
Yes, the cliffhanger that had us pulling our hair out. Remember everything yet?
Well, you better because we're about to get real and juicy with some hot questions!
The Truth about Taehyuk's Cousin/Brother
It turns out that his cousin was his brother in his past life! He was also a king, which makes Taehyuk somewhat royalty.
And here's the thing: his older brother was low-key obsessed with him – not in a creepy way, but like a super overprotective helicopter parent.
This dude controlled every aspect of Taehyuk's life, even his marriage (which ended tragically, by the way). The thing is, he's not doing this out of malice. He truly believes he knows what's best for Taehyuk.
Now, here's where it gets really juicy: the brother's obsession inadvertently led to Taehyuk finding true love with Hyo-un. The brother messed up big time, but if he hadn't pushed Taehyuk away, he would never have met Hyo-un.
Though his brother technically lets him go and be free with Hyo-un, he still ends up dying in the end. Why? Because some dumb eunuch thought it would be wise to kill him so the king wouldn't have any more "weaknesses."
What is Taehyuk's current fate?
Before everything went down to hell, Hyo-un had prepared an orb to help Taehyuk live longer. But before it could be completed, Taehyuk dies.
So Taehyuk goes to sleep, hoping he will meet his mate the next time he wakes up. But because of the unfinished orb, Taehyuk falls sick and loses his memories of his mate.
Fortunately, Hyo-un reaches Taehyuk in time and gives him the completed orb. Now that Taehyuk shares a soul with a dragon, he's also an immortal pseudo-divine being.
Death warned Hyun that there were gonna be consequences because he was taking someone from crossing the afterlife. After all, he was fated to die at 33 years old in every single one of his lives.
But now that's not the case. Taehyuk's fate now changes.
Death throws in a classic warning: there will be consequences. After all, everything comes with a price, especially when you go against fate. And it did come with an expense: Taehyuk's memories.
Season 3 announcement
Ma Jeung Ji just dropped the hot new cover for Season 3 of Dawn of the Dragon, coming June 24th to Boomtown in Korea! Get ready for a role reversal, folks - Hyun's the one chasing after a memory-wiped Taehyuk this time!
But wait, there's more! Forget the amnesia drama; the real juicy stuff is yet to come. We're crossing our fingers for those international releases to start rolling out in a few weeks (come on, simultaneous global release, please?!).
The excitement is real! Who knows what chaos is about to unfold, but one thing's certain: these two are officially soulmates now.
At least we all know Taehyuk and Hyun are endgame. Knowing their happy ending is guaranteed is a relief, and there is no need to stress about them not finding their way back to each other!
But buckle up because, before our happy ending, it's Hyun's turn to chase after amnesiac Taehyuk! But the real intrigue for me is how their relationship will evolve now that Taehyuk's semi-immortal. How will they tackle this memory loss hurdle?
Of course, this is just me theorizing. I'm equally curious about the other dragon and the whole brother-cousin dynamic. Mark my words; something is brewing there!
