Ishtar

About

Ishtar is the former head of the Ishtar Familia and a powerful Goddess of Beauty from the DanMachi series. Known for her pride and ambition, Ishtar seeks to overthrow Freya, her self-proclaimed rival, believing herself to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

Her ruthless and manipulative nature is showcased in her plot to use Bell Cranel as a tool in her rivalry against Freya, disregarding the harm it may cause others. Although composed and strategic, Ishtar's arrogance leads to her eventual downfall when Freya outmaneuvers her, resulting in her banishment back to Heaven.

Ishtar is a striking figure, with dark purple hair, alluring brown eyes, and a curvaceous, well-endowed physique. She dons revealing attire similar to Amazonesses, consisting of a red-orange cloth draped over her neck and a matching pareo around her waist. Adorned with golden jewelry, including bracelets, anklets, necklaces, and a tiara, she radiates an aura of beauty and seduction.

Her personality is defined by intense pride and jealousy, particularly toward Freya. Ishtar is calculating, patient, and cold-hearted, willing to sacrifice her own Familia members to achieve her goals. Despite her cruelty, she sees sex as a sacred act, viewing prostitution as a natural extension of her divine role in nurturing fertility and controlling male aggression.

Powers & Abilities

As a Goddess, Ishtar possesses powerful charm abilities, along with an extensive influence over her Familia. However, her divine abilities pale in comparison to her most notable power, Charm, which allows her to manipulate the minds and desires of both mortals and gods.

  • Charm: As a Goddess of Beauty, Ishtar can mesmerize and control both gods and mortals with her beauty. However, her charm has no effect on Bell Cranel due to his unique skill, Liaris Freese.

Trivia

  • Ishtar is based on the Mesopotamian Goddess of love, war, and fertility of the same name.
  • Despite her manipulative nature, Ishtar views sex as a divine and sacred act, not as something impure.
  • Her ambition to dethrone Freya is driven by extreme jealousy, but it ultimately leads to her downfall.
