Count on these girls to serve you coffee, help you out, and deliver quality!

I recently finished watching LycoReco (Lycoris Recoil), and it was such an excellent show that I felt like sharing my thoughts with my otaku friends out there!

Lycoris Recoil is an original anime that aired from July to September about a secret organization maintaining absolute peace in Japan at all costs.

This group is formed by highly-trained teenage girls who are always ready to do whatever it takes to make sure the population won’t realize the extent of danger that surrounds them.

By the way, when I summarize the story like that, LycoReco reminds me of Psycho-Pass, which has a more futuristic setting and carries a heavier tone, of course.

Still, if the idea of mixing gun fights, fake sense of peace coming from violence, and the personal drama of talented secret agents appeals to you, I do recommend it.

I felt some people were tricked by how cute Chisato and Takina were, and the idea of Takina being sent to work with a happy and silly girl, who primarily works serving in the LycoReco Cafe and helping citizens with minor tasks, forgot the real Lycoris part of the show.

After all, the Red Spider Lily, Lycoris radiata, is known as the death flower for a reason. Whenever it appears in an anime, we know things are getting tough.

From the beginning, it was impossible for me not to love the animation, the colors, and the character designs.

The attention to details and not having the serious veteran and silly rookie team are some good points among others that made LycoReco evade clichés as cleverly as Chisato evades bullets!

Soon, the anime showed its “lycoris” side, and I must say... it didn’t disappoint!

More than just a “girls with guns” anime (and I like those too!😁), the anime balanced the maturity expected from people who are responsible for their country’s safety and have been prepared from an early age to do that, with the natural liveliness and energy of sixteen-year-old girls.

And by that, I’m not just comparing Takina’s and Chisato’s personalities. The anime, as a whole, is neither too dark nor too bright.

Art indeed an important role in making the series popular, as the action scenes were intense, but there were plenty of wholesome and funny moments too.

Although the plot wasn’t extremely innovative, it does have twists that make it unique. However, from my point of view, the way the characters were presented was how Lycoris Recoil became one of the top animes of the year.

Each character that was part of the story had something special about them: their motivations, attitude, interactions with one another, and, on top of that, how everything was displayed, that made me grow attached to most of them and truly anticipate the following episode.

In the end, that’s just how I feel about this anime, and others may have different opinions, but the truth is that the show is a success!

Before the anime finished airing, a manga adaptation and a light novel spin-off had already launched. It seems fans had a hard time accepting the anime was over after Episode 13, since “LycoReco episode 14” trended on Japanese Twitter.

Still, there isn't information about another season of Lycoris Recoil so far, so we can only hope and live our lives the best way possible, in spite of the problems we may have.
