Mary Saotome is the deuteragonist of Kakegurui. She comes from a poor family and is attending Hyakkaou Private Academy on a scholarship. She's actually extremely smart and is known for achieving whatever she sets her mind to. One thing that she hates the most is when people look down on her because of her family's financial background.

Mary is a very aggressive go-getter. Everything she currently has is because she worked hard to achieve it, not because it was handed to her by someone else. This contrasts with almost every student from her academy as they all come from extremely rich and influential households.

Mary Saotome likes natural makeup. A little bit of mascara, a little bit of pink blush, and beige lipstick, and she is good to go. Her yellow eyes go really well with her blond hair. She likes tying her hair into two neat ponytails, and she keeps them tight using black ribbons. 

Mary was, at first, twisted and egoistic. She loved to dominate whomever she met. However, she goes through a lot of character development as the series goes on. In the beginning, all she cared about was being on top and oppressing the people who were at the bottom. But slowly, she starts to dismiss these types of hierarchies entirely, focusing more on individualism. Yumeko Jabami definitely inspired her to change her ways!
